Every man has an obligation to earn living for himself and his dependents, but what is more necessary is to oblige every rightful method one employs to earn it. Dignity of labor is a notion which endows and dignifies every kind of labor, be it by hands or heads. It is to accept that every job is equally honorable and should be respected by every member of society, it is to endorse that it is not money which is reputable but the honesty and dedication to work.
The civilized nations were quite visionary in acknowledging the importance of labor and thus envisaged a social code which motivates all to earn their bread and butter by fair means. In the developed countries, children and students are encouraged to start their earnings at early stage and the most common opportunities for them are manual works. Moreover, the employees whether they are white collar workers or blue collars enjoy equal constitutional rights.
On the contrary, the philistines are still struggling to annihilate the fanatic demons of perceived undignified workforce. These coarse nations are paying for their egoistical approach towards discriminating the labor force. This has led many people to remain unemployed rather than using their vocational skills and become a mere burden on the society. In addition to that, man was created on the instincts to work. Well satiated Work motive is an established psychological reason behind well-being of a man and it can be fulfilled by being prolific in whatever a human intends to do. It cures many ailments of society related to unemployment and underemployment and everyone can be an active member of society.
Dignity of labor finds its effectiveness in all times and all types of societies from descend of mankind on earth. Every worker should be valued on the basis of his dedication and vigilance towards his duty rather than compensations he gets. Just as Ulysses Grant has said, “No labor disgraces man; unfortunately you occasionally find men who disgrace labor”
