Introduction to IELTS

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. The exam is offered by British
Council and AEO (Australian Education Office). The students who attempt the exam are referred to as the candidates. This test is taken by the students who want to study or work in a country where English is spoken as a first language. This test is taken by the non-native speakers of the English language. This is a written test and there are 4 modules in the test:
Speaking, Reading, Listening, and Writing. Native speakers of English language are not required to take the IELTS exam. For instance an Australian would not be asked to take an IELTS exam if he or she wants to study in Canada.

IELTS versions
There are 2 versions of the IELTS exam.

IELTS Academic version
IELTS academic version is taken by the students who want to study at a college or university where English is spoken as a first language.

IELTS General Training version
IELTS General Training version is taken by the people who want to work or settle in a country where English is spoken as a first language.

IELTS modules
There are 4 modules for the IELTS exam for both Academic and General Training version.
For Academic version

IELTS Dates
There are 2 to 3 dates available for the exam in a month and the exam fee for IELTS is Rs 23,200. Students would have the choice of either appearing for the exam through British Council or AEO.

IELTS Result
Result for IELTS would be announced 13 days after the exam and the score would be ranging from 1 to 9 Band. There would be a band given for each module and there would also be an overall IELTS band awarded. The result for IELTS would be valid for 2 year.
