Ever since the dawn of life on this earth, man is driven by his curiosity motive. We want to know what is happening around us and seek answers for every phenomenon. This appetite for information has been satiated by the Print media for centuries. Print media includes those communication channels which are part of printed literature. The major sources of print media are Newspapers, journals, books and magazines.

The major work of print media includes gathering information through reliable sources and interpreting the information to disseminate it to general public. Print media was the sole flag bearer of freedom of speech and right of access to information for long epochs. Newspapers mobilize people’s opinion for national and international causes and not only circulate the information but are also vital to impart education to general public. The public views the world through the eyes of the journalists and follows the viewpoints of editors. Print media is an effective strait for the mass awareness campaigns and hence can be used in productive ways to edify and enlighten the people about social evils.

Likewise, until the dawn of electronic media, it was only newspapers which changed the course of history through their vernacular writing. History is filled with such examples in which newspaper were breeding ground of revolution. Moreover, if we consider the example of Pakistan, the freedom movement was propagated to far fledged areas through ‘ Comrade’ and ‘Hamdard’ which were published by compelling freedom fighters.

On the contrary, with the advent of social and electronic media, the popularity of print media was compromised but it is still famous as the source of authentic and reliable information. If social media is accessible, the print media is accurate. So, everything has shifted to internet as well but newspapers are still widely circulated.

To conclude, I would like to say, newspapers are part of our heritage and we should conserve this legacy to transmit it to our future generations. Role of newspapers is still vital for the survival of societies like Pakistan, where a lot of people do not have internet access.
