How to counter drug addiction?

Drug addiction is among the most widespread social evils of Pakistan. The hazards of this ill are not limited to our country but can be seen all over the world. This piercing situation poses a serious threat to the bright future of young generation. Drug addictions can be defined as the prolonged use of drugs like opium and hash and heroin which ultimately results in dysfunctioning of brain and complex mental disorders.

In addition to that if we have to fight against drug abuse, we will have to identify the root causes. The major reasons of this prevalent ill are the easy availability, parent’s negligence, bad company and the recent fashion trends and movies advocating it as a style statement. The authorities should be vigilant in dampening the trade of drugs. Parents should be more open in listening to their children’s problem and should keep a check on their time table and company. Any abnormality must be noticed and questioned by the parents. Kids must be taught to abstain from rotten apples of society and should indulge in healthy activities.

Likewise the treatment of drug addiction is also a very slow and time consuming process. Encouragement is the key to success as the patients suffers from severe neurotic disorders and strong craving at the early stage of withdrawals. There are number of rehabilitation centers working in the city for betterment of addicts. Therapies not only include diagnosis and medication but also vocational trainings. He can use these skills to earn his livelihood and not be a burden on society. They are treated with a number of psychological therapies as well to enhance their self-respect and confidence level.

To conclude I would like to say that world has already identified the bottom line of drug addiction. It is the right time to combine our efforts and implement the strategies which will help us in bringing up a thriving youth.
