BA English Essay: Role of Media in Politics
Role of media in Politics
In a world where media is termed as the fourth pillar of a state, the key role media plays in politics cannot be more emphasized. It has become the basic ingredients for a well governed society. Media actually acts as a watchdog to maintain equilibrium between different parts of state. It also has the holy duty of informing masses about the latest happening in every walk of life.
If ambitious politics is a key to prospering country then the media is the lock guiding it. A transparent system of government is only possible with the freedom of speech and media’s ability to access information. In special case of Pakistan, the free media was surprisingly a brain child of a dictator Gen Pervaiz Musharraf. And since then it has become a flourishing industry in Pakistan with the quality and timely data they are providing to viewers. The recent corruption cases just like ‘NICL scandal, OGDCL scandal, and ephiderine case were brought to the scene by the media personnel. People felt empowered when the petitions against the powerful politicians and their families were heard and justice was imparted. An independent judicial system in Pakistan is only achieved by a 24/7 media coverage to the said issue.
Hence media is pivotal to ensure a true democratic system in Pakistan where the politicians and leaders can be held accountable in front of public. Pakistan is already treading the path of democracy through upcoming elections 2013 and media is working hard to guarantee a transparent, impartial and unbiased electoral process.
